Complications

What to do when Complications occur?

Central venous catheterization is an invasive procedure and as such involves certain risks. These can have considerable, even mortal consequences for the patient. It is therefore important to be aware of these risks so that if complications do occur one can respond quickly and appropriately.

The "Complications overview" compiles the most frequently occurring complications. The times given in the column "Onset Time are approximate and should be understood as such. Many of these complications can occur in patients after widely varying periods. Therefore it is always a good policy to observe patients with a CVC closely for any symptoms of complications.
