Braunula technique

Catheter placement using the Braunula technique

This method is used principally for CVC placement via peripheral veins. An IV catheter (Braunula) is used for the puncture procedure. After the vein has been located, the steel needle is removed. A catheter equipped with a stylet is then advanced through the plastic catheter tube that remains in the vein. Then this plastic catheter tube can also be taken out of the vein and remains either at the proximal end of the catheter or is removed with the "peel-awayö method.
