The Certofix® PresSure Check principle

The Certofix® PresSure Check lets one measure the average pressure in a punctured vessel. The pressure measurement is based on Boyle’s law (p x v=const under isothermal conditions). Through the compression of a defined gas volume (air) by a fluid, it is possible to determine the amount of pressure in the fluid system. This pressure level can be easily read in the fluid column shown in the display tube of the PresSure Check syringe.

On the basis of the level of the rising fluid column, it is possible to make a simple reading of the pressure in the interior space of the syringe and thus also of the pressure in the punctured vessel. The open area in the syringe plunger provides a viewing window for the pressure reading. The window indicates a pressure range from 30 to 50 mm Hg* (see illustration).

Syringe function
When the two grip plates are parallel to one another, the Certofix® PresSure Check can be used as a syringe. With this setting the Certofix® PresSure Check feels like a normal syringe providing a clear haptic signal whether the syringe function of the pressure measurement function is activated.

Pressure measurement
For pressure measurement, the two grip plates must be at right angles to each other. This connects the display tube located in the syringe plunger with the interior space of the syringe activating the pressure measurement function of the device.

A closed system

“This system has the advantage that I can keep the entire puncture system connected. It is a closed system when I use the valve needle and advance the guide wire from the lateral access port. In comparison to the methods used up until now, this represents real progress and a true innovation.
In addition, I would be very pleased if everyone could use such a syringe and be able to perform venous access procedures safely and reliably.”
